DVM
Dr. Trisha Doswell was born in Northern New Jersey. At the age of 3, her family moved to Melbourne Beach. She grew up playing sports (softball and volleyball) and music, was a local Girl Scout (cookies!), and traveled the world with her family and friends. Her passion for veterinary medicine developed while working with sea turtles, observing gopher tortoises and bobcats in her backyard, and growing up with a variety of pets.
She attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree, where she received her B.S. in Animal Science: Animal Biology, along with a minor in Aquatic Animal Sciences. During her time at UF, she volunteered at the local SPCA and UF’s Equine Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Go Gators!
Dr. Doswell earned her DVM at St. George’s University on the beautiful tropical island of Grenada in the West Indies, where she held positions in student government, was the North American Veterinary Conference Representative, and participated in One Health-One Medicine clinics. She completed her clinical year at Louisiana State University, focusing on aquatic, exotic, and small animal (canine and feline) medicine, which involved rehabilitating iguanas, raptors, opossums, herons, and other wildlife. She completed her training in the Florida Keys, working at an emergency referral hospital, where she honed her skills treating canine, feline, and exotic patients such as sea turtles, chameleons, parrots, and many other feathered, shelled, scaled, and furry animals. Throughout her career, she embraced various cultures and experiences, including playing in Carnival, sailing the Caribbean, hiking rainforests, working with leatherback sea turtles, and learning new cooking styles while developing friendships around the globe.
After vet school, she moved to Flagler Beach, FL, where she practiced small animal emergency and general medicine, including avian, exotic, and pocket pet care. Dr. Doswell developed a special interest in behavioral medicine and became Fear Free Certified, a certification focused on preventing fear, anxiety, and stress in pets through gentle handling and personalized care plans. Her goal is to create a peaceful and comfortable experience for both pets and their families.
She later moved to Marathon, FL, where she had the privilege of being mentored by a world-renowned exotic animal specialist. During this time, she also developed a passion for oncology through her experiences with her own pets, particularly her beloved dog Ziggy. While practicing in Marathon, she led the hospital’s oncology cases and provided compassionate care, guiding families through the emotional and difficult journey of cancer treatment, with a focus on improving pets' quality of life. Additionally, she developed her professional interests in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry.
In 2019, Dr. Doswell returned to Melbourne Beach to be closer to her family and lifelong friends. She now resides with her two dogs: Toby, an energetic, sweet, but mischievous Cocker Spaniel/Maltese mix, and Phoebe, a cuddly, silly, cancer-survivor French Bulldog/Pug/Boston Terrier mix. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at the beach, exploring Florida’s treasures, doing crafts, cooking, and hopes to resume her work with sea turtles soon.
Dr. Trisha Doswell practices at both the Melbourne and Melbourne Beach locations.
